Øðr as Survival
Beyond the obvious evolutionary benefits of channelled aggression
One of the most fundamental core traits of a male, fuelled not only by testosterone but also ethos, cohesion as well as an innate warrior spirit, is aggression. Aggression has allowed for the survival of our species so far by allowing true men to fight to protect what was theirs, including their offsprings, tribe, resources or land. Or to stand for what they believed in, allowing for humanity to thrive up and civilization to evolve, up to a recent point in time associated precisely with a loss of masculinity in the modern world.
